Man’s stomach ripped open during fight over woman

Doctors at the Lagos Island General Hospital are battling to save the life of a 34-year-old man, identified only as Owuye, whose stomach was ripped open on New Year’s Eve.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim and an elderly man, identified simply as Baba, were involved in a fight over a married woman.

Our correspondent, who visited Tafawa Balewa Square, where the incident took place, learnt that Owuye’s intestines popped out, causing him to lose a lot of blood.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Soji, said Owuye was the first to attack the elderly man.

He said both the victim and the elderly man were both jobless people who usually sleep in buses at TBS.

He said, “In the afternoon, we were arranging chairs at TBS for a church, which was planning to hold a watch night service, when we saw the both of them fighting.

A German man had to be tied up on board an airplane after he tried to smoke during the flight and got violent when staff tried to stop him.
Mathias Jorg, 54, lit up several times on a 7.5 hour flight from Singapore to Brisbane and had to be detained by staff after he allegedly became aggressive.

When the Emirates Air flight landed in Brisbane just after 1am on Thursday morning, Mr Jorg was taken into police custody.
He appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court later the same day, charged with one count of smoking on an aircraft, one count of assaulting crew and one count of assaulting crew affecting the performance of their duty.

A little girl has undergone plastic surgery after part of her mouth was ripped off by a dog in a Christmas Day attack.
Six-year-old Demi Baines was walking to her home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, with mother Karen Baines when she was mauled by the Staffordshire bull terrier.
Ms Baines described how the dog launched at her daughter and attached itself to her face – leaving the little girl with horrifying facial injuries which included a severed lip.

Please I need your opinion on something that is keeping me up at night. I met my boyfriend in November 2010 and after only four months of dating he proposed to me on Valentine's Day in 2011. I was really excited and believed he didn't want to waste time and was eager to marry me. But it's going to three years now since we got engaged and he hasn't said anything about a wedding. Every time I mention it he tells me I'm acting desperate that I should calm down that if he didn't want to marry me he would not have given me a ring. We are both over 30 so I don't understand the delay. What bothers me most is that he's not even talking about it. I suggested we get married the last week of December 2013 so we can begin a new life in 2014 but he said he will let me know when he's ready. Should I give him an ultimatum or just be patient?
